How Often You Should Replace Furniture?

You probably know the average lifespans of all your groceries, whether they have the expiry dates labelled on the products or not. What about your furniture, however? As the years go by and wears down on your household commodities, their lifespans significantly decrease and you need to know when it’s time to switch them out for new ones.

Your mattresses will accumulate a lot of sweat from the long, hot nights and the dust too will collect inevitably as the years go by. Even though you might clean it out regularly and air it out, this takes its toll. For the sake of hygiene, it’s best that you replace your mattress every 5 to 10 years depending on your maintenance routines. This applies for any sort of mattress, from a spring mattress to water beds and those made out of memory foam.

Shower Curtain Liners

There’s no place quite like the bathroom that’s filled with nooks and crannies that can accumulate plenty of mold and mildew. One such place that you probably weren’t aware of is your shower curtain liner. It gets wet day after day so they’re probably one of the most prone areas. It’s best to replace them at the very least between 3 to 12 months.

Carpeting definitely isn’t something you should skimp on when you go shopping. A high-quality carpet could last you as long as 15 to 25 years without showing any signs of wear and tear! This is of course provided that you maintain it well. In contrast, a medium grade carpet could probably hold out for 5 to 15 years and an apartment-grade carpet would only last you between 1 to 5 years. You should definitely look at carpeting as a solid long-term investment in your future purchases.

Pillows go through the same treatment as your mattress does but it can last for a maximum of 3 years if you take care of them right! However, we do suggest replacing them after this period for the sake of personal hygiene.

Usually a high-quality table will last you 10 to 15 years but if taken care of properly and consistently it could easily last a lifetime and become a family heirloom passed down through generations. If you have damaged your table by placing hot items on it, scorching it, scratching it and scraping it, then you should probably look at getting new dining tables Canberra. Make sure you set regular maintenance for it the second time around.

With appliances like the washing machine, it’s inevitable that they begin to conk off at some point. To make things worse, most people tend to forget that appliances like these need occasional maintenance too so this further reduces its lifespan. Usually an appliance like this would need to be replaced after 10 to 13 years but as stated above is subject to change based on your cleaning routines.

Now that you know the average lifespans of these family essentials, make sure you maintain them impeccably so you can extend them for as long as possible!
